Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 with 3GB RAM and Nokia 2.1 launched in India: Price, specifications

Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 are improved variants of last year’s model.

HMD Global sent media invites for an event on August 21 where it is widely expected to launch the Nokia 6.1 Plus, also called as Nokia X6 in China. But in the meantime, the Finnish smartphone maker has introduced three new smartphones in the country.

HMD Global, the company with license to sell Nokia-branded devices, has launched the next generation Nokia 5, Nokia 3 and Nokia 2 in India. The new Nokia 5.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 2.1 were first introduced in Russia and have now made their way to India as well. The company says all the three devices will be available starting August 12 across top mobile retailers and online on Paytm Mall and Nokia’s own website. All the three smartphones run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and will get promised upgrade to Android 9 Pie later this year.

“With this range, we deliver larger screens, enhanced performance across our range with processor upgrades offering up to 50% higher performance while maintaining the perfect balance with power consumption and stunning designs – all in a segment where consumers often need to compromise,” said Ajey Mehta, Vice President and Country Head, India, HMD Global.

Nokia 5.1 Specifications and Price

Of the three devices launched in India today, the Nokia 5.1 is the most premium offering from HMD Global. It gets an upgrade in terms of design and now features an aluminum unibody casing carved out of a single piece of 6000-series aluminum. The smartphone also comes with satin finish, which the company claims helps with ergonomic feel.

In terms of specifications, we are looking at a 5.5-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. This is a huge upgrade considering the original Nokia 5 had a 5.2-inch display with 16:9 aspect ratio. Powering the device is an octa-core MediaTek Helio P18 CPU clocked at 2.0GHz coupled with 3GB of RAM and 32GB expandable storage.

The Nokia 5.1 also sees updates in the camera department with the smartphone offering an updated 16-megapixel primary camera with phase detection autofocus and dual-LED flash. There is an 8-megapixel camera at the front for selfies and includes support for WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS and 4G LTE.

While the Nokia 5.1 features thinner bezels, it continues to retain the fingerprint sensor at the front of the device. There is a 2,970mAh battery and will be available in copper, tempered blue and black color. The Nokia 5.1 will be available starting August 12 at a retail price of Rs 14,499.
